Jesus Ramos Jr. Enters San Diego as the Champion
There is a different kind of pressure that comes with entering fight week while holding a championship.
For much of his young career, Jesus Ramos Jr. was the fighter trying to move toward something. On September 19, the dynamic changes. Ramos arrives at Pechanga Arena carrying the interim WBC middleweight title and an undefeated mandatory challenger arrives intending to take it.
Ramos earned the belt in December 2025 when he defeated Shane Mosley Jr. over 12 rounds by unanimous decision. The victory moved Ramos’ career into a different category.
Now comes the responsibility of defending it.
Meiirim Nursultanov Brings an Undefeated Record
Meiirim Nursultanov enters the co-main event at 20-0 with 11 knockouts.
An unbeaten mandatory challenger creates a straightforward storyline: somebody’s momentum has to change.
For Nursultanov, San Diego represents the opportunity to turn years of professional work into a championship breakthrough. For Ramos, the challenge is proving that winning the belt was only one stage of a larger middleweight run.
Ramos’ Pressure Has Become Part of His Identity
Ramos has developed a reputation around physical pressure, body work and the ability to force opponents into uncomfortable exchanges.
But championship-level boxing often demands more than aggression. Fighters have to understand when to push, when to reset and how to maintain control when an opponent refuses to cooperate with the expected rhythm.
That is what makes Nursultanov particularly interesting.
Ramos is not facing a fighter arriving with the expectation of simply surviving. He is facing an undefeated challenger who has earned a mandatory position and arrives with his own championship ambitions.

A Fight That Can Shape the Middleweight Conversation
Ramos is still only entering the prime-building years of his career, yet he already owns a championship position and a professional résumé that has put him in significant fights.
September 19 is therefore less about introducing Jesus Ramos Jr. and more about establishing what comes next.
A successful title defense keeps the conversation moving toward larger middleweight opportunities. Nursultanov’s job is to interrupt that path entirely.
That tension is what makes the co-main event one of the most meaningful fights on the PBC San Diego card.
