For the Watson family, sports have never existed only inside the lines of competition. On Sunday, October 4, that philosophy moves from the boxing world to the baseball diamond as Team Watson Foundation brings its Charity Celebrity Softball Game to Loyola Marymount University’s George C. Page Stadium in Los Angeles.

The afternoon is being built as both an entertainment event and a community gathering, bringing together familiar faces from sports, music, television and digital culture while creating another entry point for young people to experience sports from a different perspective. Before the celebrity game takes over the stadium, Team Watson Foundation will also host a youth and teen baseball clinic, expanding the day beyond spectatorship and giving younger participants an opportunity to get directly involved.

It is a natural extension of the work Team Watson Foundation has built around mentorship and opportunity. Founded by Samuel “Sam” Watson, the nonprofit uses sports as a vehicle to expose young people to education, leadership, entrepreneurship and professional development while emphasizing that a future within sports can extend far beyond becoming a professional athlete.

A full afternoon at Page Stadium

The Charity Celebrity Softball Game is scheduled for October 4 at George C. Page Stadium on the campus of Loyola Marymount University. According to the official event announcement, gates will open at 2 p.m., followed by the Home Run Derby at 3 p.m. and first pitch at 4:05 p.m.

Advance general admission is currently listed at $10, with children ages 12 and under admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets purchased at the door are listed at $20. Registration for the youth and teen baseball clinic is also available through the official event registration page.

Entertainment and sports meet on the diamond

Team Watson has begun revealing personalities expected to participate in this year’s event, continuing a format that brings different corners of sports and entertainment into the same space. Among the guests announced so far are Don Benjamin, West Coast recording artist Kalan.FrFr, actor Emilio Rivera, Austin McBroom and actor and recording artist Jacob Latimore.

The crossover also illustrates why celebrity sporting events can become something larger when they are connected to a community mission. A familiar name may initially bring someone through the stadium gates, but what surrounds the game — young athletes participating in clinics, families sharing the experience and children seeing multiple industries represented in the same environment — can give the afternoon a purpose beyond the final score.

For UND1SPTD, this year’s return is more than an event appearing on the calendar. We were on the ground for the 2025 Team Watson Charity Celebrity Softball Game, documenting an afternoon that brought athletes, actors, recording artists, entertainers, families and community organizations together in Los Angeles.

Last year’s event also partnered with The RightWay Foundation, connecting the celebrity softball game with an organization whose work centers on supporting transition-age foster youth as they navigate the move into adulthood.

The partnership reinforced a larger purpose behind the game. Celebrity appearances helped bring visibility to the afternoon, but the experience remained grounded in community, creating a space where entertainment, sports, philanthropy and youth development could exist side by side.

Among the personalities UND1SPTD photographed during last year’s event were comedian and actor Affion Crockett, actor Danny Trejo, recording artist Dreezy, Austin McBroom and DJ Ayejaye — a glimpse into the mix of entertainment and sports figures who gathered around the event.

McBroom’s return among this year’s announced participants also creates a visible connection between editions of the game. Rather than functioning as a one-time celebrity activation, the annual event has continued to bring familiar supporters back while introducing additional personalities and community partners into the Watson family’s charitable work.

Showing young people where sports can take them

Team Watson Foundation’s larger mission makes the youth and teen clinic an important part of the October 4 event. Young athletes are often introduced to the dream of becoming professionals long before they are introduced to the careers, businesses and industries that exist around professional sports.

The people responsible for making a major sporting event possible extend far beyond the athletes competing on the field. Marketing, media, broadcasting, production, sponsorships, photography, venue operations, management, public relations, entrepreneurship and countless other careers exist throughout the same ecosystem.

Community events can help widen that picture. A baseball clinic may begin with learning the game, but exposure to the people and industries surrounding that game can introduce young participants to opportunities they may not have previously known existed.

That makes the Watson family’s annual softball game more than an afternoon built around celebrity names. It creates an environment where families can enjoy sports together, recognizable personalities can use their platforms to support community work and young people can enter a professional sports environment in a way that feels accessible.
