Frank “The Ghost” Martin is scheduled to welcome boxing fans and members of the media to an open workout on Sunday, October 18, at Team Quality Boxing Academy in Mesquite, Texas, just six days before his return to the ring against Tarik Zaina at San Antonio’s Frost Bank Center.

Doors are scheduled to open at 10 a.m. for the Halloween-themed media day, offering supporters an opportunity to witness the former lightweight world-title challenger’s preparation. For Martin, the workout represents another step in a career that has moved beyond the singular pursuit of an undefeated record and into the more demanding process of rebuilding momentum in the super lightweight division.

A Different Kind of Fight for The Ghost

Martin’s professional résumé includes important victories over Michel Rivera, Artem Harutyunyan and Rances Barthelemy, followed by his high-profile setback against Gervonta “Tank” Davis in June 2024. Once regarded as one of boxing’s most promising unbeaten lightweights, Martin now finds himself navigating a different stage of his professional career.

The move to 140 pounds has introduced a new set of opportunities and challenges. Martin enters October 24 with a 19-1-1 professional record, seeking to establish himself among the recognized contenders in a division occupied by some of boxing’s most accomplished names.

Opposite him in San Antonio will be Tarik Zaina, who brings an 18-3-1 professional record into their scheduled 10-round matchup. Zaina previously told UND1SPTD that he personally requested the fight after learning that Martin had signed with Top Rank.

That detail makes the upcoming contest more interesting than a routine comeback appearance. Martin is pursuing another opportunity to compete at the highest level, while Zaina views the matchup as a chance to prove himself against an established former world-title challenger.

For both fighters, October 24 could represent a meaningful turning point.

The Ghost is no longer fighting to remain undefeated. He’s fighting to remind the boxing world exactly who he is.

More Than an Open Workout

Open workouts are often treated as routine promotional obligations during fight week, but they provide a perspective that the public rarely experiences during an actual professional contest.

The sound of punches hitting mitts, the repetition of combinations, the adjustments between rounds and the interaction between a fighter and his training team offer insight into the preparation that precedes fight night. Those details can reveal as much about an athlete’s approach as a polished highlight reel.

For Martin, whose career has already included nationally televised contests, major promotional opportunities and the experience of challenging Gervonta Davis for a world championship, the October 18 event represents another opportunity to engage with his supporters while preparing for the next chapter.

The appearance also creates an opportunity for photographers, videographers and journalists to document an important moment in Martin’s career and contribute to the larger story surrounding his return.

UND1SPTD Opens Media Contributor Opportunities

In conjunction with its continued coverage of professional boxing, UND1SPTD is inviting photographers, videographers, journalists and independent media outlets attending the October 18 workout to register their interest in contributing editorial coverage through UND1SPTD LIVE.

Selected media coverage may be considered for publication on UND1SPTD.com, giving contributors an opportunity to have their work presented alongside professional boxing news, athlete profiles and upcoming fight coverage.

Photographers will also have the opportunity to submit original workout photographs for editorial review and potential licensing through the UND1SPTD LIVE platform.

The initiative is designed to support professional media contributors while giving athletes access to approved photography for editorial distribution. Contributors retain copyright ownership, and separate licensing options are available for future digital and print editorial usage.

Creating Opportunities Behind the Camera

Professional boxing depends on more than the athletes competing inside the ring. Photographers, journalists, videographers and independent media professionals contribute to how fighters build their public identities, attract new audiences and preserve the moments that define their careers.

Yet those contributors do not always receive the recognition or opportunities their work deserves.

UND1SPTD LIVE aims to create a more transparent editorial ecosystem in which contributors can receive credit, retain ownership of their work and make original imagery available through clearly established licensing arrangements.

For fighters, the model provides a pathway to access authorized images for approved editorial distribution without assuming ownership of a photographer’s intellectual property. For photographers, it offers a chance to establish professional relationships with athletes, media organizations and potential licensing customers.

The October 18 workout is an opportunity to introduce that collaboration while documenting Martin’s preparation for another important night in the ring.

October 18 Is the Next Stop Before San Antonio

Martin’s open workout at Team Quality Boxing Academy takes place less than one week before the October 24 event at Frost Bank Center, where Emanuel Navarrete and O’Shaquie Foster are scheduled to headline a major boxing card.

As Martin prepares to face Zaina, the focus remains on his ability to carry the lessons of his previous experiences into a new opportunity at super lightweight.

The October 18 event provides fans and media an opportunity to witness a portion of that preparation before the bright lights and pressure of fight night return.
